Government Blasts federal brucellosis proposal

Ben Neary's blog states that Wyoming in 2003 was not brucellosis free but in 2006 this status changed. The wildlife such as elk and coyotes with in yellow stone national park carry brucellosis which poses a problem with the beef industry in Wyoming. In 2003 the loss of disease-free status cost an estimated $5 million to Wyoming Stock Growers Association. As we can see brucellosis can have a very serious impact on the beef industry. The new rule the government was proposed was if the states wildlife was not brucellosis free neither is the beef industry within the state. The new rule could prove detrimental to the beef industry because it often results in cattle needing to be quarantined and prices drop dramatically. Many beef herdsmen have gone through the proper procedures such as vaccinations to avoid such a status.
